(In the Classical Wisdom Substack Live "The Real Odyssey" Joel Christensen suggests the Hines? graphic novel if you don't know the story. According to him the two translations most faithful to the Greek are Lattimore and Mendelsohn)

I'm loving Essay Club! I know the compressions started as a logistical necessity, but I'm finding reading both versions really interesting. For some essays, the compressions seem like the acoustic version of a song. Not a gateway, not a lesser version, more a different take that lets you hear the content in another way.

…this reminds me that i badly need to fan edit a super cut 88 minute version of all the twilights, 50 shades of greys, and avatars with baseball manager speech intermissions and steven spielberg talking about space aliens, an opus i will refer to as “That Pandora Night I Had Naughty Sleep With an Emotional Vampire Dodger”…help me compress the title ;)…

Recall that a) the Odyssey is a *poem* so if you do not want to do in-depth analysis of Homer's language it may take shorter than a regular 500-page book b) you do not have to be at the theater opening weekend. You really don't.*

Terry Teachout's "Pops" was not too bad for a book to read three chapters of today but Teachout's personal politics may render it a smidge controversial.

* Not for a movie like this. For a movie like "Gail Daughtry And The Celebrity Sex Pass" whose showtimes I have just looked up that the people who saw it at Sundance were begging even to be shown in theaters you might have 2 weeks at most. Of course the pathetic excuse for a theatrical release that "Confess, Fletch" got we do not speak of.

Possibly important disclaimer that since the pandemic the movies I have seen in the theater are "American Fiction", "Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere" and "Marty Supreme" because sibling was in town and wanted to see it

Should also shamelessly plug Across The Movie Aisle which has been doing Alyssa Rosenberg's impressions of The Odyssey at the pace of 1 canto? a week.
