Well this took all of 2 minutes to decide. What a great win all around β€” to support the writers, the editors, and the prize pool. Congrats to Tommy and all the published writers, and to Michael for bringing this to life. Can’t wait to have it at hand (words on paper!) and read the essays. πŸ‘

An easy decision to support such a worthwhile creative project, Michael. Analog is such a breath of fresh air these digital days.

Congrats to all! Just purchased my copy. Can also relate to your friend - very much need to hold something physical in my hands.

Michael - way to bring such great writing to life in hard copy and πŸ’₯ BOOM to Substack GOAT Tommy.

Tommy, you were already first name worthy. This proves it.

…needs more comic strips…

Premium hardcover limited edition of 1 copy where CansaFis converts each essay into a comic strip. Seriously though, I want to make one more attempt at the cover image style for the final print, so worth chatting.

Nice concept. Good effort.

The thing that just jumps out of me that I have to ask tho:

How do all the essay titles have the same structure?

Did people write essays to try to get into the collection?

Or were essays that had been elsewhere on the internet under various titles simply given that title? At least for the table of contents?

Michael Dean's avatar

There was a mix of submissions (new/revised/existing), but the titles you see here are all new, collaborated on after the fact. These are technically the subtitles, elevated to be the main thing. I felt that, for an anthology of essays, this lets you quickly understand the range of topics in the book. Inside, on the table of contents and at the start of each essay, you see the original title along with the β€œOn …” subtitle. The On theme also ties back to history of essay naming.

Ah-ha, ah-ha. Yes, that makes sense. Nice salesmanship. Smart.

Did Montaigne do that? That feels kinda Montaigne'ish. Which would make sense.
